What is a Digital Salinity Refractometer?
A Digital Salinity Refractometer is an electronic instrument designed to accurately measure the salinity (salt concentration) of liquids. Unlike traditional optical refractometers, digital versions provide easy-to-read, precise measurements at the push of a button.
How It Works
This device works on the principle of refractometry, where light bends (refracts) as it passes through a liquid. The refractometer measures the refractive index, which correlates directly to the salinity level. In digital models, a small sample is placed on the prism surface, and the device automatically reads and displays the salinity value.
Applications
- Aquaculture and marine biology research
- Food industry (checking brine solutions, sauces)
- Aquarium maintenance (monitoring saltwater tanks)
- Beverage production (quality control)
